The important thing to remember is that all towers, servers, laptops, notebooks and netbooks except for Macs are slow right our of the box . The main reason they are slow is because major system manufacturers install 30-day limited functionality applications, demo software and trial programs from 3rd party manufacturers. This allows them to save money. The problem arises when 20, 30, 40 or even 50 plus applications are starting up with Windows and hogging system resources slowing down your expensive machine, creating sluggish responsiveness and delaying your start up and shutdown times.
PC Fixer has been developing a tuneup for slow systems for over 16 years. Our tuneup process is guaranteed to speed up your PC, Mac or Server. We will eliminate all of the unnecessary programs that start up with your operating system, remove demo programs, clean your registry, clean your hard drive, install free protection software and much more.
Sometimes the best time to tune up your Mac or PC is when it is brand new. Other times, it becomes slow over time. This gradual decrease in startup and shutdown times, slow internet and overall sluggish responsiveness is a big problem and can cause you or your office to lose days or weeks of productivity. No problem, PC Fixer can breath new life into your entire electronic family. Sometimes the results are dramatic. Tuneups start at $50 for a basic tuning or we can perform a deluxe tuneup which includes 3 hours of technical shiatsu for $145.
Call us today to discuss which kind of tuning would be best for your PC and Mac systems.
While there is no "best way" to back up, one thing is certain: You need at least two backups - one onsite and one offsite. Your onsite backup can be to an external hard drive, a NAS drive or even another user on the network. Your offsite backup can be an online service (we like www.crashplan.com) There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Offsite backups are usually the transportation of a portable backup device/media or over the internet. Online backups are slow to back up and slow to restore. The more data you are backing up, the longer it will take. And if you ever need to recover your backup, it will take equally as long to get your files back. This could mean days, weeks or months of constant data recovery. The upside to offsite backups is that they are very inexpensive, typically $3 - $5 per month, and a number of services allow unlimited data for that price. Most importantly, online backups protect your information in case of a disaster such as fire or theft.
Onsite backups are typically performed with external hard drives, tape drives, flash drives or even CD or DVDs. Our team likes backing up to a large external hard drive in a the form of an image. Our favorite backup programs are made by Acronis or, if you have a Mac, Time Machine. The advantage to onsite backups is that they are very fast to back up. You can back up an entire system in about an hour and you can recover all of the information in about the same time. The downside to onsite backups is that they are useless in the event of a fire or theft.

PC Fixer's favorite PC laptop manufacturer is Lenovo. If money is your primary motivating factor, Dell and Toshiba represent an excellent value. We also love Mac machines if you can afford them. We do not recommend brands such as HP or Sony. HP laptops are consistently the most unreliable with respect to hardware and Sony laptops are far too expensive and loaded with bloatware.
When buying a laptop it is important to take a few things into consideration. In an era of very inexpensive notebook and netbooks, it is very tempting to pass on fixing your old laptop and simply buy a new model. Before you toss your old machine into the recycling bin, please consider that a good new laptop will cost you at least $500 - $600. Add to that the 3-year extended warranty (we always recommend the extended warranty) plus tax and you have yourself an $800 computer - and that is for an entry level system.
PC Fixer repairs all makes and models of laptops, netbooks, notebooks and tablets. We repair motherboards, logic boards, GPU chips, replace DC Jacks, replace inverters and LCD and LED screens and just about any hardware or software repair that you can think of. We even repair cracked iPad and iPhone screens. Many repairs cost less than $200 making repairing your laptop a much less expensive option that buying a new one. And you can keep your electronics out of a landfill and when the time comes for a new system, you will have a fully functional backup.
In many cases we find that repairing problems is simply not cost-effective. We are happy to help you decide whether repairing or replacing it is the right decision for you. Just give us a call.
