These days, work can be defined as “that which is accomplished while not distracted by the Internet,” Everyone who works on a computer understands how easily things like e-mail, instant messaging and social networks distract from the days tasks.
Eyebeam Lab’s recently released an application that can solve this very problem: SelfControl is a simple program for Mac OS X that prevents you from procrastinating by blocking access to certain websites and e-mail servers.
It was made after Steve Lambert found himself checking e-mail almost subconsciously, even when wanting to focus. SelfControl runs a blacklist that you can add specific web sites and email servers. This lets you customize the program to block only your personal distractions while leaving access to whichever sites you need for work for a certain time period. For example, you could block access to your e-mail, Facebook and Twitter for 60 minutes, but still have access to the rest of the web.
This is great for Social networking or email addicts. Next step however, is having the self control to install the program.
